Terrys Appaloosas

Nestled in a small community just north of Dallas, Texas is the home of Terry's Appaloosas were we specialize in family friendly animals.  Our horses are  handled daily and are people friendly.

The Appaloosa Horse

We chose appaloosas above all other breeds because appaloosas are people horses. They come in a large variety of colors and patterns. The characteristics that identify them are: White sclera around their eyes (like us). Mottled skin on the face and other parts of their bodies. Stripped hooves. The most noticeable is their unusual coat patterns. Although, they can have a solid coats without any spots or frosting. They come in every color from black to white.

The genetic trait for their coloring is unknown. Two solids can produce colored offspring, and two colored appaloosas can produce solid offspring. They can change color as they get older. Some are born solid and color out as they grow. However any white markings on the horses head or legs are not likely to change, and are used to identify the horse.

They were originally used in the US by the Nez Perce Indians. They only selected the best mares and stallions for breeding. They were highly prized for their fearlessness in battle, their sure footedness and their fast speeds. They are sturdy horses that have incredible endurance.

The appaloosa is seen today dominating every type of eventing, English and Western. They make excellent youth horses due to their calm temperaments and sure footedness. They are uses for show horses in halter, western please, dressage, jumping, endurance, and trail. For gaming, racing, barrels, poles, roping, cutting, reining and just about any event you want to use them for. Why? Because appaloosas remain calm under pressure.
